GWCT members Jennifer Hutchison and Rae Harrison braved the brutal heat to complete the 100 mile Blood Sweat and Gears. Jennifer finished in 6:46 and Rae in 7:03, even with a broken chain and mechnical repair time. Great climbing girls!
The 2009 Cowbell Challenge took place in Davidson, NC. GWCT racers Debbie Gillespie and Liz McNamara raced the tough course! Debbie placed third in the women's XC1 division and Liz in XC3, both for podium finishes. Great job ladies!
The first Caesar's Head Challenge took place this past weekend and GWCT members Cissy Fowler and Catherine James stepped up to the 102 and 66 mile challenge, respectively. The rides consisted of Diving Waters, Camp Old Indian, the Watershed, Saluda Grade, Mount Olive, and finally Caesar's Head. Cissy finished in 8 hours for the 102 mile route and is making a great comeback as her broken arm heals. Catherine rocked it under 4 hours for the 66 mile route. Read Catherine's Report Here. Susan Jones-Morgan finished 5th in the NC Road Race Championships and was the first SC racer across the finish line. Great racing Susan!
Melissa Weddell raced Women XC2 for the SE Championships in Clemson, SC after almost a decade of mountain bike racing retirement. She placed 7th among a strong field of experienced competitors and remembered just how painful racing in the woods can be.
GWCT racer Dawn Strickland won gold for the South Carolina Women 40-44 Time Trial. Way to rock it in the Lowcountry. Thanks to all the sponsors for the Lowcountry Challenge race weekend!
Safe Harbor is a 24-hour emergency shelter and crisis line for victims of domestic violence. The organization hosted its annual Safe Harbor bike ride from Iva, SC. GWCT members Giselle Weekes, Amy Carter-Hutchison, Jenn Young, Dawn Strickland, Rae Harrison, and Melissa Weddell supported the ride on the fast, rolling 65 mile course. It's been great watching this organization and ride grow! Great job ladies!
The Dahlonega Omnium was a three event series featuring a 10K Time Trial up Brasstown Bald, a downtown Dahlonega fast and tight crit, and finally a scenic road race through the foothills of the beautiful North Georgia mountains at the Monteluce Winery. GWCT racer Catherine James finished 3rd in the TT, 2nd in the criterium, and 3rd in the RR for a 2nd place 1/2/3 Women's Omnium Finish. Way to climb girl!
GWCT racers Caroline Mills and Liz McNamara competed in 12 and 6 hours of Tsali in the Women's Solo Division in North Carolina. Mills placed second in the women's field and 12th overall while Liz finished in 5th place in the 6 hour women's field. Great racing ladies!
